Honest Comparison

PayMint vs Tally.

Tally runs your books. PayMint runs your branches. Most Indian dealerships and multi-branch SMEs need both — and they integrate perfectly.

Where Tally earns its place

Tally Prime — India's most-used accounting software.

  • Decades of trust in Indian SME accounting
  • Deep ledger and double-entry accounting depth
  • Familiar to most Indian accountants
  • One-time license model (lower long-term cost for accounting alone)

Where PayMint clearly wins

Multi-branch operations, end-to-end.

  • Real-time multi-branch expense tracking (Tally is single-user / single-PC by default)
  • Mobile-first voucher capture — branch staff submit on phones in seconds
  • Branch-coded voucher numbering with atomic per-branch counters
  • Server-enforced role-based approval workflow (Maker → Authoriser → Accountant → Admin)
  • Append-only audit log with actor + timestamp on every action
  • Cloud-native — works offline, syncs automatically when connectivity returns
  • Tally-ready CSV export so you keep using Tally for accounting

Which is right for your operation?

Pick PayMint if…

  • You operate 2+ branches and need real-time visibility across all of them
  • Branch managers need to submit vouchers on mobile phones
  • You want server-enforced approval workflow with audit trail
  • You need branch-coded voucher numbers for clean reconciliation
  • You want to keep using Tally for accounting AND solve the operations layer

Pick Tally if…

  • You only operate one location and one accountant handles everything
  • Your needs are pure accounting (ledger, balance sheet, P&L, GST) without operational layers
  • You don't need real-time multi-user / multi-branch capabilities
  • Your team is already deep on Tally and won't add a second tool

Buyer FAQs

Questions evaluators ask.

Does PayMint replace Tally?

No — and we don't recommend trying. Tally is a mature double-entry accounting system; PayMint is a multi-branch operational expense system. Most of our customers run both, with PayMint feeding Tally via the 11-column CSV export. PayMint solves what Tally is weakest at (real-time multi-branch ops, mobile capture, role-based workflow, audit-grade logging); Tally solves what PayMint doesn't try to do (full accounting ledger, balance sheet, P&L).

Can PayMint export directly to Tally Prime?

Yes — and the export schema follows Tally's standard 11-column import format: Voucher Type, Voucher Number, Date, Reference, Narration, Cost Center, Ledger Name, Amount, GST split, Approver, Source. Drop the file straight into Tally Prime; no manual cleanup. Cost-center and ledger mappings are configured once during onboarding.

Why not just use Tally on Cloud for multi-branch?

Tally on Cloud (TallyPrime + cloud sync) works but is significantly more expensive at scale (per-user licensing, per-machine cloud server costs) and isn't mobile-first. PayMint is purpose-built for the multi-branch ops layer: branch staff submit on phones, role-based approvals route automatically, audit log captures every action server-side. Then we hand clean data off to whatever Tally setup you already have.

How does Tally's audit trail compare to PayMint's?

Tally's audit trail (TallyPrime 2.x onwards) tracks edits to vouchers, but the trail itself is editable by users with sufficient permissions in some configurations. PayMint's audit log is append-only at the database level — Firestore Security Rules deny edits to historical entries even from super-admin credentials. For SOC 2 / forensics-grade compliance, PayMint is the stronger position.

Can my Tally accountant continue working as before?

Yes. That's the design intent. Your accountant continues using Tally Prime exactly as they always have — they just stop manually keying 200+ vouchers a month. PayMint's CSV export drops straight into Tally; the accountant's job becomes verification, not data entry. Most accountants love it.
